Project Detail

Finlux Ecommerce

Based on an existing website, created an online solution that is responsive, and easy to merchandise and develop to allow multi-channel selling.

The Project Brief

Starting with an existing non-responsive website on an online selling platform, the project plan was wide ranging and multi-staged in scope.

  1. The Finlux ecommerce team wanted to investigate how they could create a new responsive website to improve conversion on tablets and phones. They also wanted to significantly speed up merchandising and product set up, as well as look at opportunities for automation of back-end fulfilment and finance processes.
  2. The brief would potentially extend further if the right cost-effective solution could be found to establish opportunities to merchandise on other websites such as Amazon and eBay via the same site set up processes.

Client

Finlux is a direct to customer, internet only retailer of cutting-edge televisions, accessories and other consumer electronics products.

The Solution

Working on a consultancy basis we initially reviewed all aspects of the existing web processes for each sales channel. We also viewed the integrations with other systems and processes; e.g. sku population, marketing, payment, fraud, accounting and delivery fulfilment.

We fed back various ROI based proposals to take the project forward, with a comprehensive review of the existing web platform and market to look at opportunities for expansion and how to improve the whole ecommerce proposition.

The decision was taken to proceed and, due to the scale and complexity of the project, to look at mid- to large-scale managed ecommerce solutions and partners, rather than building from scratch.

We produced a comprehensive request for proposal document (RFP) that was circulated to the chosen development partners. We then managed the process together with further updates and clarifications for the project.

The project also had RFP processes and elements produced by us to address cost and workflow issues for:

• Payment Service Providers (PSP)
• Online Acquiring Banks
• Fulfilment Integration
• Product Information Management (PIM)
• Online Merchandising Solutions
• Multi Channel & Site Merchandising

The Results

The project was given the go ahead and built in the Magento Enterprise CMS system with a third party partner. We project managed the whole process for Finlux, supplying further services for web design, integration and systems testing, plus user experience testing and sign off for each stage of the project.

Our final design implemented a PIM system that significantly reduced time taken to merchandise and setup new products. The finished platform automated the accessory merchandising, fulfilment and finance reconciliation processes and offered free, named day and timed delivery options for customers. It incorporated new PSP, fraud and acquiring bank systems, plus a a multi-channel setup solution, all of which dramatically reduced costs and human intervention.

The fully responsive, one page checkout site site launched on budget and on time fulfilling all the original development requirements of the project, in time for the peak trading period.

What Our Client Said

“Insite Web managed the RFP process for the new Finlux.co.uk ecommerce platform, plus the integrations with all internal systems. They project managed the whole process from specification to design and delivered it on time and on budget.”
